I Was Buoyant
To celebrate turning fifty I got PADI certified to scuba dive. PADI stands for Professional Association of Diving Instructors so this was a fairly high level to attain. I never intended to teach it, I just wanted that skill level for personal competency, for safety.
I loved moving freely through water, feeling it slide off of me like a caress as I swam wherever I chose, like a fish at play moves up, down, forward, or back in the water. I had good buoyancy control, which is essential to keep one where one wants to be in the water column, so as to avoid damaging the aquatic life living on the bottom, or being bitten by it.
Of course I can no longer safely scuba, that was twenty years ago, and the difference between middle age and old age is a heartbreaker.
