A Dozen, Dozen Roses

I wonder why it is that humans cut off flowering plants' sexual reproductive organs, the pistil and stamens inside their petals, to give as gestures of affection and caring to other people.  A man once gave me a dozen, dozen roses, 144 long-stemmed, red roses as his token of esteem.

He gave me a dozen, dozen roses.
