Discriminating Or Defective?

I cannot taste paprika or saffron, and cilantro tastes like soap*.  It is my understanding that this is typical of some Northern European people, which is where this stuff does not naturally grow.

*  Random Internet Source:  "People who say cilantro tastes like soap have a variation of olfactory receptor genes that allows to detect aldehydes. It is a compound found in cilantro which is also a by-product of soap and part of the chemical makeup of fluids sprayed by some bugs. This is why cilantro is in the taste of soap or stink bugs. People with the OR6A2 receptor gene are able to detect aldehydes, and therefore detect a soapy odour, while those without this receptor cannot detect the soapy taste."
