Getting To Know Me
I just moved, from awful housing that was meant to be temporary here in Maine but which lasted 2 ½ years, to a much more comfortable senior housing community with over a hundred other elderly residents. I composed this list of social facts about myself and I am having fun handing out copies to people I meet here. :-)
My answers to some getting-to-know-you questions:
Where are you from?
The Midwest, especially Minnesota which I love the most.
Who raised you? My mother, father, and my paternal grandmother who were respectively, Assistant State Auditor, Research Chemist, and Community Playground Director.
What are three of the most significant events in your childhood?
The assassination of American President John F. Kennedy made me realize that the world could tip over in one scary instant.
When my father heroically saved our single-mom neighbor's car from her burning house and I admired him so much.
When I realized that I am remarkably smart and kind and I wondered what responsibility that entailed. IMVHO ;-)
What did you do professionally?
United States Peace Corps Volunteer assigned to Mali, West Africa (and A LOT of other volunteer work)
Graduate Teaching Associate at Ohio State University, and guest lecturer to other collages
Senior Technical Writer of mechanical & electrical processes, and photographic illustrator
Educational Level
Master's degree from Ohio State University, Sociology with emphasis on demography/statistics
What are your favorite childhood memories?
Boating, swimming, bike riding, and horseback riding because I love nature and animals.
What book has had a significant impact on you?
The Bible and other books of world religions.
I am Christian
I respect, revere, and worship gentle Jesus meek and mild. I have studied other world religions.
What are some movies you really enjoyed?
Poignant biographical comedies like My Left Foot, science fiction like War Of The Worlds, and just about any adventure film. Oh yeah, and documentaries on the huge megalithic structures around the world that were built and destroyed tens of thousands of years ago, by whom?
Who is the most fascinating person you’ve met?
I met kind body-builder Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger! Oh my gosh, oh my gosh and golly!
What amazing adventures have you been on?
I have had the thrill of piloting a small plane over the San Francisco Bay, climbing mountains, hiking deserts, motorcycling, and scuba diving in the oceans. Will tell true stories for free!
