Tappity Tap Tap Tap

Annmarie Throckmorton, M.A.

In retrospective 2023 was the inaugural year of the Double-Tap Off, meaning that instead of a single tap to turn off a feature, or to turn off a device; now we are often required to tap twice.  And so we all go tappity tap tap tap.

Example:  When I want to shut off my device" I tap once.  Then Device asks me something to the effect of "Are you sure you want to shut off your device, really, really sure?  If so, tap again."  This is an absurdity, I know when I want to shut off my device and my single tap command should be sufficient.  Requiring me to double-tap diminishes my authority, and in a small, niggling way it makes my mind stutter.  Which, I believe is the intention of the digital powers-that-be.
